A round trip is economically something entirely different from a single trip – only the trip data does not say which trips belong together. The system builds the chains itself: same trailer, contiguous in time, closed on return to the country of departure.
For every lane a rate proposal emerges from the prices actually achieved, with more recent trips weighing more than older ones.
Empty running is the single largest loss of margin in road transport and at the same time the worst measured. The usual formula – empty km over total km – understates the problem systematically.
Emissions are increasingly part of the tender, not just of the sustainability report. The accounting follows EN 16258, the GLEC Framework and ISO 14083 – with well-to-tank and tank-to-wheel shown separately, as the standards require.
There is no sustainability without corresponding profits. An avoided empty kilometre saves diesel, driver time, tolls and emissions – all at once, out of the same decision. That makes efficiency the most solid lever logistics has for sustainability: it carries itself.
AI here is a tool, not an end in itself. It is good for what occurs in large numbers and follows recurring patterns. For the exception it is not – and should not be.
