Driving time calculator

The trip
Time at which the driver sets off.
Real road kilometres, not straight-line distance.
With a limiter usually 65–75 on the motorway.
Excluding start and destination.
Loading and unloading counts as work, not as a break.
Shifts the departure; it is not a break.
What the driver already has behind them today
Counts against the daily driving time.
After 4 h 30 the next break is due.
Twice a week 10 h are permitted.
Only needed if the trip does not work out today.
Both add up to 45 minutes — the arrival does not change because of it.

The rules used for this calculation

The basis is Regulation (EC) No 561/2006 for vehicles over 3.5 tonnes in commercial goods transport. The calculator covers the standard case of a driver's day — four figures are enough for that:

FigureRuleIn the calculator
Driving time in one piecea break after 4 h 30fixed
Szünet45 min, divisible into 15 + 30selectable
Daily driving time9 h, twice a week 10 hselectable
Daily rest period11 h, three times a week 9 hselectable
Driving time = distance ÷ average speed
Breaks = rounded down( total driving time ÷ 4 h 30 ) × 45 min
Arrival = departure + loading time + driving time + breaks + stop times
If the daily driving time is not enough: + daily rest, then on the next day

What is often overlooked

Loading and unloading is not a break. It is other work. The clock until the next mandatory break does not keep running — but it is not reset either. Anyone who spends 45 minutes at the ramp and then drives on still has the break ahead of them.

The extension to 10 hours is not a reserve. It is available twice a week, and the week has often used one of them up by the time the question comes up. Anyone who plans with it as a fixed figure is planning with an exception.

The bottleneck is rarely the distance. At 520 kilometres the pure driving time is well below the daily limit — what breaks the day are loading times and stops that never appear in the costing. That is exactly the difference between a trip that is discarded during planning and one that comes to a halt on the road.

What this calculator does not cover: weekly driving time (56 h) and the two-week limit (90 h), weekly rest periods including compensation, split daily rest (3 + 9), multi-manning, the ferry and train exception, and periods of availability. For a single day with one driver the calculation is complete; for weekly planning it is not.

Ez az eszköz gyakorlatközeli számítási segédlet, és nem jogi tanácsadás. The regulation, the national rules and the tachograph are what count. The calculation runs entirely in the browser; no input is transmitted.

Pro · Driver and week

Calculate with the real remaining times, not with assumptions

The free calculator assumes what the driver already has behind them today. The Pro version reads it out: Remaining times per driver from tachograph and telematics, and the whole week instead of one day — weekly driving time, weekly rest and the compensation obligation. This function is kizárólag kérésre és jóváhagyás után biztosítva.

  • Remaining times per driver from tachograph and telematics
  • Multi-day trip with weekly driving time, weekly rest and compensation
  • Cabotage, return obligation and posting checked in the same pass
  • Multi-manning, split rest period, ferry and train exception
  • A warning before awarding instead of a finding afterwards
  • Handover of the driving times to the route optimisation
