What is a loading meter?

A Loading meter (LDM) is one linear meter of loading area across the full width of the cargo space (standard 2,40 m). It is the standard unit for calculating part loads and fairly allocating cargo space – regardless of the exact weight. A standard-Semitrailer offers around 13,6 LDM (approx. 33–34 Euro pallets on the floor).

The loading meters required per slot result from the pallet dimensions and the number placed side by side:

LDM per pallet = depth (m) ÷ pallets side by side · pallets side by side = 2,40 m ÷ width
Total LDM = rounded-up slots × LDM per pallet (with stacking: slots = pallets ÷ layers)
Pallet typeDimensionsLDM per slot
Euro pallet120 × 80 cm0,40
Industrial/CHEP120 × 100 cm0,50
Düsseldorf80 × 60 cm0,20

Reference values for the standard LDM calculation. Non-stackable, oversized-width or oversized-height shipments may deviate.

Pro · AI cargo space optimization

Optimize cargo space & load plan automatically

The Pro version optimizes the loading automatically: mixed pallet types, stacking and weight distribution, axle load and the correct loading sequence for multiple stops. This function is exclusively on request and after approval provided.

  • Optimal loading plan for mixed cargo (Euro, industrial, special sizes)
  • Stacking and weight distribution incl. axle load note
  • Loading sequence by unloading stops (LIFO)
  • Multiple vehicles / splitting when overloaded
  • Interactive load plan – drag & drop pallets to move & adjust
  • Visualization (2D/3D) and handover to dispatching
  • Batch processing of entire order lists
